My set don't have that talking-thru-your-amp quality; I emailed Don about that, and he said that he's generally making them a bit less microphonic than before. From his website:

Currently, we take out the squeal and leave in the good microphonics. Adding more microphonics risks annoying squeal and does not add any more beauty (in our opinion).
