I didn't know that the middle position is not a Bridge/Neck combined.
I wonder if this is like the AV52, where that's stock, but most people rewire it to conventional?

Thats one of the millions of typos/mistakes inside the Fender specs.
The GE has regular modern wiring.
This is what the specs should have said.
Pickup Switching 3-Position Blade:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup
Position 2. Bridge and Neck Pickups
Position 3. Neck Pickup
All positions have tone control.
