Pole piece adjustment - help?

Hi all.
This is my second post.
I have a CIJ 52 special reissue (butterscotch) with a dragster humbucker in the neck position.

I have been very happy with the tone of this guitar (after it was set up by a decent tech).

But just now I decided to experiment and got a screw driver and turned the pole pieces about a quarter to a half a turn clockwise across the humbucker.

I tried to reverse what I had done, but pretty much made random adjustments so couldn't get the screw positions back to where they were.

Is this kind of adjustment likely to radically (or even subtly) alter tone?

To be honest I didn't know what a pole-piece was when I did this, and I am concerned that I have subtley affected the tone of my beloved tele in a negative way.

Is there any way to reset the pole pieces to a 'default' setting?

Is this something I shouls be concerned about?

What the heck are pole-pieces anyhow?

Your comments are appreciated!
