The most important differences are:
Body wood:...........50's: Ash....................60's: Alder
Saddles:...............50's: Plain steel............60's: Threaded steel
Bridge pup:............50's: flush pole pieces...60's: Staggered pole pieces
Neck profile:..........50's: big "C" or "U".........60's: Medium "C"
Fretboard material:.50's: maple................. 60's: Rosewood
What these differences do to the guitars is a matter of opinion

, but do a search and you will find

...
Let me say it this way: If you brought one 50's Classic and one 60's Classic to Mr.Robertson and made him play both, I doubt that you'd hear much difference. (Except that no two guitars sound exactly the same even if they're the same model).
Where you might hear a difference, would be on the bridge pickup - the 50's bridge may sound a little shrill or harsh at times - at least mine did - but I'd like to meet the person that could tell them apart ten out of ten times if blindfolded. JMHO
Hope this helps ... But I guess not
And
Elliot - even if I'm no Gibson fan, that must be the best looking SG I've seen ...
