The bridge issue is no problem with longer screws. So what if they run thru the back ..... Grind 'em off with a dremel and fill and finish. Maybe even let 'em show, it already has the stunning character of the nail(which I like, BTW).

You could use metal inserts and machine screws, like the neck kits. I bet this is gonna work. I'd further bet: grain filling is gonna be the hardest part. This is already too much fun.
