I say save yourself the hassle and widen those pickup slots and slap em in there.
Those wide-ranges look and sound beautiful, plus you wont have to hassle with rewiring from scratch if you are new to guitar mods, just 3 solder connections. I did the same with mine, just had a flat and round file and gradually opened them up.
