When I hear Music Mans now, I am struck by how mid-rangey they sound. A lot of volume and very little depth of tone. When I was much younger I thought I needed a lot of midrange, but I could no longer use an amp sound like that.
Funny you should mention that - there is a lot of middle in the sound but you do have the bright and deep switches, which however are a little extreme in their effect. But that midrange comes into its own in a louder band environment, keeping the guitar clearly audible and clean when required, where a more "toneful" amp, for lack of a better term, might get lost in the mix. Your point is well made regarding their age - no Music Man amp can be less than 24 years old now, though they're very well-built indeed. I haven't heard of any particular reliability issues and mine still seems fresh as a daisy.

All the same, I think we're probably agreed that a Music Man isn't the amp that Rob TeleMan, the OP, is looking for.
