If you look closely at the very first picture, you can see the greenish color of the natural poplar wood. It is close to alder in density but sands really well and takes paint beautifully. Since it will be covered in sparkle and binding, I don't care about the funny color. I sure wouldn't want to do a clear coat on it though...
