In 2nd grade, I won second place in a speech contest (I got a ribbon).
In my 20s, I won second place in a newspaper contest (cut a bunch of letters out of the classified section and mailed 'em in) -- won second place, which was a trip to Lake Tahoe.
I seem to be a second-place kind of guy!
