The OP solicited opinions on the new American Standard, specifically mentioning Fender's marketing materials and the new "improvements." I am offering mine. I'll stop offering opinions when it becomes mandatory that all opinions of Fender's marketing efforts are unquestioning and positive.

All good points, but I still think that you should temper your attitude until you've actually given the guitar a fair chance. I don't see how you can do that without playing one - and with an open mind.
The simple fact is that I can't tell you exactly why the guitar feels so much better to me, it just does. The vast majority of opinions that I've read from
people who've actually played the thing agree. For some reason a LOT of people seem very negative on this issue and I can't understand why.
