I have four picks in front of me right now - two Dunlop Ultexs (.73 & 1.14), a Dunlop Tortex (purple; gauge number has worn off), and a Fender Heavy 354 tortoiseshell teardrop jazz pick; ALL sound completely different when dropped on the table, and all make a different sound when striking a string. They really are $0.25 EQs.
