GCs around here are pretty nice places to shop. I'd rather give my money to the independents, but I have to say that some of the local shops are snooty and unhelpful compared to the GCs. They let me play for 5+ hours on their vintage amps (nice early 60s Bassman and 60s Marshall JTM45) when I was picking out my Strat. They even asked the medal shredbois outside the vintage room door to turn it town without my asking. I played maybe 20+ guitars - some off high shelves and they were nothing but friendly and helpful.
