I had a $200 solid top Epi 12 string before buying my Martin 12 string. The Epi was a nice 12 string. I could play fingerstyle on it with ease. I think it was a DR-200 12.
The best solid top dread for less than $250 is the Yamaha FG700S

-mahagony neck
-rosewood fretboard
-the tuners are good Grover knock-offs
-very easy to play
-sounds really nice
