I don't like them enough to buy one; at least not a new one. It'd have to be a pretty special price for me to get one. Plus, that dew claw on the headstock is downright fugly, imo.
My experience with them has been limited as I've only played two ASATs. The first was a Special some years back; nice guitar, great fit and finish, had a really nasty (in a good way) attitude for rock. At the right price I could've really bonded with this guitar
The second and more recent experience was with an ASAT Classic custom shop (or whatever they call them). Gorgeous guitar with a transparent finish on beautifully figured ash--sort of a PRS-like candy finish--tummy cut (worthless to me, I'd rather have an arm contour), natural binding and fat birds-eye maple neck.
This one is also flawlessly constructed, plays great, but weighs a freaking ton. While the sound is in the same ballpark as a tele, it sounds too hi-fi as others have noted. It could partially be due to the DR with JBL I played it through, I dunno. Too heavy, too expensive, too sterile sounding for my tastes.
