Hi everybody! This is a fun thread, and in answer to an earlier question about ones you can buy in a music store, I'll put in a plug for Hal Leonard Publishing. They make a couple of jam-track CDs which I think are very cool:

Classic Blues Jam Session: these are instrumental versions of popular songs by Clapton,B.B. King, etc.

Ultimate Blues Jam Session: These are generic tracks. They sound good:

Total Blues Jam Session: Once again generic, but cool sounding

Here's a link to some videos of me trying out some Jam Tracks.

The Slow Blues Instrumental and the one in Amin are from The Total Blues Jam Session CD

The Jam In Emaj the one in F# are from "Practice Trax for Guitar" published by Musician's Institute.

All of the above mentioned CDs come with a book that has the tunes charted out with chord symbols, as well as some suggested licks.

Anyone wanting to go into Jazz territory should check out Jamey Abersold's website. Just google the name. He has probably a hundred play along book/CD sets which are organized by category: Standards, Artists (Coltrane, Davis, etc.) Instruction, Improvization.

They are usually a Jazz rythm section consisting of Piano, Stand-up Bass, and Drums.

Also, if anyone wants to go to Harmony central and poke around, someone posted about twenty jam tracks for free downloading.

Have fun
